FAQs
Performance & Features
What sets the E1 system apart from the rest?
Our axial flux motors provide the best-in-class power to weight ratio. Providing 4x the power density and 1/2 the weight. Our 800V architecture allows for the maximum efficiency. With packages ranging from 150 – 650 hp, EVOA can integrate into most marine applications.
How do you calculate horsepower for EV?
HP= KW x 1000/746
What kind of motor can the E1 system be applied to?
All drives available: V-Drive, Stern, Direct, Jet, and Outboard
Can it be used in fresh and saltwater?
Yes—any body of water. EVOA’s systems operate in a closed-loop cooling system.
Does the E1 System support towing behind the boat?
Yes—with 450 hp and 540 ft lb of torque, enjoy any water activity with ease.
What is the driving experience like with the E1 system?
It provides instant torque, smooth acceleration, quiet operation, zero emissions, and pairs with Zero Off.
How would you describe the handling?
Its battery placement enhances stability and responsiveness.
How does the E1 system compare to gas boats?
It has lower operating costs, minimal maintenance, recyclable components, and no emissions or noise pollution.
Safety & Technology
What makes the E1 system safe for marine use? IP rating?
The E1 System is safe for marine use for the same reasons that electric cars are safe in the rain. All electrical connections are rated at or above IP67 level. This provides protection from splashing, taking water overboard, or a leaking ballast pump. However, it is imperative that you still have functioning bilge pumps and to drain the bilge after use.
What happens if an error occurs?
In the event of a fault, a message will populate on-screen displaying warning indications. The E1 system may limit performance to keep temperatures down, protect the user from high voltage, or just simply notify the operator of any problems.
What type of battery is used in the E1 system?
The battery is a lithium-ion type, specifically utilizing NMC and NCA technologies. This type of battery cell is used for its performance at high horsepower loads common in boating. The battery pack’s capacity is dependent upon the application. However, the architectures in which the E1 system is offered include 66, 77, 133, and 154 kWh.
How was the battery’s technology developed?
The battery technology was developed in collaboration with expertise from Formula E and Extreme E.
What type of charger is the E1 system compatible with?
It supports US (Level 1 & 2, DC Fast) and EU (Level 1 & 2, DC Fast) standards.
What safety features does the E1 system have?
It has an IP67 waterproof rating, continuous voltage monitoring, and temperature resistance. It is compliant with ABYC, DNV-certified, and CE-certified.
Environmental Impact
What should be considered when dealing with various temperatures?
Cold weather may reduce battery range, while warm water has minimal effects.
What fail-safe measures are available on the E1 system?
It is equipped with multiple low-charge warnings, automatic performance cutbacks, and safe idling if needed.
Charging, Costs, & Maintenance
What are the charging costs?
A full charge costs anywhere from $5.00 – $15.00.
What is the cost of installation?
The charger costs around $100-$400, and the electrician’s setup fee is around $100 (varies by location).
What options are available for charging at home?
Options include Level 1 (120V, slow), Level 2 (240V, 3-8 hours, recommended), and DC Fast Charging (35 minutes).
What compatibilities are available when charging in public?
The charging system is compatible with CCS stations; many accommodate towed vehicles.
How can maintenance help with cost savings?
50-100-hour services are not required, and fewer moving parts lead to less maintenance overall. Additionally, winterizing is simpler than that of a gas boat; simply disconnect the 12V battery and flush any remaining water.
